Resin Adsorption and Combined Artificial Kidney
There are over one million patients every year globally who suffer from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) & maintain their lives on hemodialysis. However, with the increase of hemodialysis time length, many kinds of medium or big molecules are accumulated, which will result in relevant complications of maintenance hemodialysis to happen and develop, and patients’ life quality would be affected. The uremic toxins and the related effects are more and more clear. Blood purification treatment is to discharge the toxins, it is not only to help the people’s survival, but also to improve their life quality, and help the patients to return to the society. On Oct. 26th, 2004, Zhang Mingrui, a professor of McGill University in Canada, made an academic report of “Current Status & New Techniques of Global Hemoperfusion”. In the report, he proposed a concept of “Combined Artificial Kidney”. Combined artificial kidney is a treatment method which combines hemodialysis & hemoperfusion together to purify blood, which adopts the two complementary blood purification methods to comprehensively remove the metabolites, uremic toxins, pathogenic agents in the body of renal failure (uremia) patients and adjust the balance between water and electrolytes, thus to maintain internal environment balance. Clinical application showes that clearance rate for uremic toxins goes as HD+HP > RAD > HDF > HF > HD. At present, combined artificial kidney is the best treatment for uremic toxins removal.
HA130 resin hemoperfusion cartridge is a hemoperfusion carfridge specially designed for combined artificial kidney (HD+HP), which can adsorb uremia medium & big molecular toxins (such as parathyroid hormone, β-2 microglobulin, leptin, rennin, angiotension, cytokine, etc.) and protein-binding toxins (such as homocysteic acid, indole sulphate, spermine, cresol, etc.), thus to reduce hemodialysis complications in near or far future, prolong lifespan and improve the patients’ life quality.
Adsorption Principle
The adsorbents in HA130 resin hemoperfusion cartridge are neutral adsorption resin, its adsorption capacity depends on the molecular sieve effect of three–dimensional network structure and the affinity between resin molecular group and the adsorbed material as well as electric gravitation between molecualr groups.
Application
• Renal failure, chronic nephropathy, uremia caused by all kinds of reasons;
• Related complications of maintenance hemodialysis: renal osteopathy, refractory pruritus, peripheral neuropathy, cardiovascular disease, refractory hypertension, nephro-encephalopathy, malnutrition, etc.
Product Properties
• Safe application: good biocompatibility, great mechanical strength of adsorbing material and stable adsorbability.
• High adsorption rate & large adsorption capacity
• Sterilization with γ ray , no bacterium or pyrogen
